The Jim Crow South refers to racial segregation laws and customs enforcing Black subjugation across the American South from the late 1800s to the 1960s. Used to bar Black citizens from voting, schools, and public spaces, it upheld white supremacy, economically and politically benefiting white Southerners while deeply harming Black communities.
