The Susquehannocks were an Iroquoian-speaking Indigenous people of the Susquehanna River valley in present-day Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York. They lived in fortified villages, farmed maize, hunted, and traded furs with Europeans. Their confederacy shaped regional diplomacy until disease and warfare dispersed them by the late 1700s.
